Insurance & Appraisals

NORA SERMEZ

OFFICIAL POLICY · EFFECTIVE SINCE 2018

How do I insure my Nora Sermez piece?

Please note that Nora Sermez is a jewelry design and manufacturing studio, not an independent jewelry appraisal service. Formal insurance appraisals should be completed by a qualified third-party jewelry appraiser with the appropriate professional credentials, training, and any licensing required in their jurisdiction. In most cases, you will need to select an independent appraiser through your own research.

Your original order documentation and the product description contain the specifications provided with your piece. Diamond center stones over 0.50 ct are delivered with their applicable laboratory certification. Please retain this certificate, as it contains the diamond's identifying and grading information and should be provided directly to your insurer when requested.

Unless otherwise specifically noted at the time of purchase, all other gemstones are sold with the specifications stated in the product description and do not include a separate laboratory grading report or certification.

NORA SERMEZ provides gemstone and jewelry information in accordance with applicable Federal Trade Commission guidance for the jewelry industry, including the FTC Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries, 16 C.F.R. Part 23, which address accurate and non-misleading representations concerning gemstone type, quality, weight, treatments, and other material characteristics.

For this reason, we provide the specifications and documentation applicable to the piece at the time of sale and do not create, estimate, or assign gemstone grades, measurements, certifications, or valuations that were not originally issued or documented.

If your insurance company requires information beyond the documentation supplied with your purchase, the appropriate next step is to have the finished piece independently appraised by a qualified jewelry appraiser.

Step-by-step guide to insuring your piece:

1
Locate your original purchase documentation. Keep your order confirmation and access the product description for your piece through our website.
2
If your center stone is a diamond over 0.50 CT, locate its laboratory certificate. This contains the diamond's grading and identifying information and should be provided directly to your insurer.
3
Submit the documentation supplied with your purchase to your insurance company. Depending on the insurer, your confirmation, product specifications, and diamond certification, when applicable, may be sufficient.
4
If your insurer requests additional grading (cut, clarity) valuation, or documentation for a non certified stone(s) or their total weights, then they require a formal appraisal by a third party.
5
If an appraisal is required, take the finished piece to a qualified independent jewelry appraiser. The appraiser can examine the actual piece and prepare the additional valuation, gemstone information, or documentation required by your carrier.
6
Submit the completed appraisal directly to your insurer.

Please note: NORA SERMEZ is not an insurance appraisal service. We are happy to provide the confirmation email issued with your original purchase, but we do not complete insurance forms, perform additional grading, research information already provided with the piece, or prepare custom underwriting documentation on behalf of insurance companies.
